Q-Bang Series, BANDAZI (Q01)

Gyubang, which refers to women’s living quarters in a house in the Joseon Dynasty period, physically and effectively had women segregated from the outside world, that is, the political and social spheres monopolized by their male counterparts.
In this connection, gyubang occasionally symbolizes an ingrain sense of resentment that women would have in those days, with which the project is concerned. With a new version of bandazi, which was typical of gyubang, it is the creator’s intention to represent a delicate position in which Joseon women were placed since their life was forced to be cloistered as much as their room. To show it more tellingly, Kim has removed all of a chest except its frame.
It is her idea that the heart of the matter can be revealed all the better by highlighting a line between two sides.
